by Chris van der Leer on October 11th, 2016

Today we have some aviation videos. Firstly we have a taken off roll of an Aérospatiale ATR-72 600 from inside the passenger cabin at Christchurch International Airport.

Air NZ subsidiary Mt Cook Airline operates the ATR aircraft. ATR72-600 is a high-spec turboprop, the 600 has a "full glass cockpit" featuring five screens of digital flight instrument displays as well as electronic maps and charts that are usually available only in the larger Airbus aircraft. Based on the outskirts of Toulouse, ATR is a joint partnership between Airbus and Finmeccanica, two major European aeronautics companies.

Christchurch International Airport is the main airport that serves Christchurch, New Zealand. It is located 12 kilometers to the northwest of the city centre, in the suburb of Harewood. Christchurch Airport officially opened on 18 May 1940 and became New Zealand's first international airport on 16 December 1950. It is the second busiest airport in New Zealand after Auckland by both annual passengers and aircraft movements.

Wellington International Airport is an international airport located in the suburb of Rongotai in Wellington, the capital city of New Zealand. It lies 3 NM or 5.5 km south-east from the city centre. It is a hub for Air New Zealand and its subsidiaries. Wellington International Airport Limited, a joint venture between Infratil and the Wellington City Council, operates the airport.

On the ATR72 passengers are boarded using the rear door(which is unusual for a passenger aircraft) as the front door is used to load cargo, Air New Zealand's standard rear door aircraft can use jet bridges at airports with this equipment.

Mount Cook Airline is based in Christchurch, operating ATR 72-500 and ATR 72-600 turboprop aircraft. Flight numbers are in the NZ5000 series. Peak hour flights between Christchurch - Wellington are operated by A320, with ATR72 on other flights.
