Employment Synopsis

​IT Project Controls Specialist    
Christchurch, New Zealand – November 2013 to Present
Stantec is an engineering company specialising in water, natural resources and transportation, employs approximately 7,000 staff, has 180 global offices in 35 countries and operates in six continents.  The IT PMO follows a PMI methodology and provides project management services to support business driven initiatives on a global platform. 

My purpose is to provide value to the customer by ensuring that their projects are effectively and efficiently undertaken. Reporting directly to the IT PMO Manager in Broomfield, Colorado my responsibilities span 3 primary areas:
Project Controls:
  • Working with project managers to initially determine schedules, resourcing and budgets using Primavera and MS Project in line with guidelines defined by the IT Project Management Office (IT PMO).
  • By acutely monitoring progress throughout the project lifecycle via compilation and analysis of input from the project team I track, analyse project cost / schedule variances against baselines and perform forecasting.
  • I ensure that schedule and financial deliverables kept on track and improved through via monitoring, analysis, reporting, cost and schedule controls, forecasting, change controls and by submitting informed recommendations to the project, programme or portfolio manager.Issuing project progress reports to executives, senior suppliers, senior users and other stakeholders.
  • Risk management, including maintaining the risk register and risk analysis/assessment.
  • Ensure alignment between the IT PMO, business requirements and project processes. 
Portfolio Management:
  • Administration of the Global Project Portfolio Management toolAssisting project managers to obtain business case requirements.
  • Performing project prioritisation and benefit measurementProduce regular resource availability, budgeting, forecasting and risk/reward analysis reporting
  • Administration of the integrated change control system.
  • Administration of the IT PMO portfolioAdministration of the Oracle Primavera and MS Project Server PPM / EPM environments.
Managing Projects:
  • ​I also manage a diverse range of low and medium risk concurrently run projects to complement the IT PMO service; this includes managing project through the entire project lifecycle.
  • Development of the business case, ROM and project charter for sponsor approval.Creation and ongoing maintenance of project documentation (project management plans, schedule, budget, etc.)
  • Formation and leadership of geographically diverse project teams.
Key achievements in this role:
  • Successfully migrated the IT PMO from Microsoft Project / Project Server to Oracle Primavera environment, this included the seamless realignment of the planning, alignment of project management processes with the new tool, providing training, documentation, etc. without interruption to project managers and project teams.
  • Designed / developed Global Project Portfolio Management tool – A SharePoint based portfolio management tool used by all senior management and project managers, allowing them to quickly review accurate data for project statuses, KPI’s risk level, prioritisation etc.
  • Developed a suite of custom tools and reports to provide better visibility around project resourcing for senior management and project managers. This resulted in more efficient resource allocation and lower labour costs for projects.
  • Successfully managed over 70 low to medium risk projects to deliver a wide range of deliverables and associated benefits to customers.
  • Championed the widespread adoption of the IT PMO’s guiding principles and framework by actively promoting project management services across the Asia-Pacific staff. This resulted in the IT PMO having the most mature PMO in the region (Measured at Level 4 of Gartner's PPM Maturity Model).
